The Red Light District
If you are intrigued by Amsterdam’s Red Light District but would like some help navigating on your own, this soundwalk is for you and for all the curious, tolerant and respectful out there who want to get an insiders version of the story. This soundwalk is guided by our narrator, a research student doing immersive journalism, who will help you learn about the realities and legends as you take in the neighborhood vibe. Respecting the residents and the prostitutes of the neighborhood, this self guided journey will give you special commentaries of the history of Amsterdam that reveal the stories behind the creation of this peculiar and controversial neighborhood. The tour begins in Saint Nicholas Basilica, built in 1887, then you will discover Zeedijk Street, one of the most popular streets of the city. As you walk the Chinese neighbourhood, you'll find the first budhist temple in Europe. The tour doesn't enter any museums, however it will take you to the Oude Kerk street and pass by the Erotic Museum, Oudezijds Voorburgwal Canal and finish the walk in the surroundings of the Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum, that opened in 1885.
